When Ann Herrington visited Dewey
Animal Shelter in 1997, she was simply looking to adopt a second
Dalmatian. What she found herself face-to-face with was a
heart-breaking fact: many of the more than 100 animals arriving at
the shelter daily must be euthanized because there are not enough homes
for them.
That day, Ann took home more than an
easy going, spotted friend named Harley. She took home the
terrible vision of hundreds of loving pets having to be destroyed simply
because good homes are not available. And this dynamic director of
Marketing at KNPR decided to take action. She called friends and
fellow media professionals Patti Mills and Pat Miller, and the trio
organized the first-ever- off-site adoption event for Dewey's animals.
That first all-day event sponsored by
the new Media Partners for Pets resulted in the adoption of
almost 80 cats and dogs. And that was just the beginning.....
Media Partners for Pets events
also help the public to learn about responsible pet ownership and
alternatives to taking an animal to the shelter. Low-cost vaccinations
and behavioral referrals are also made available. Vital partners
in this endeavor to save the lives of hundreds of animals are Dewey
Animal Care Center, Clark County Animal Control, Veterinary Centers of
America, community-minded business sponsors, and generous individuals
like you, who care about the futures of these animals.
